Beatrice’s Bunch ~ KooL KidZ celebrate abroad

Published by Elizabeth under KooL KidZ

Celebrating birthdays is always special… but having a celebration of all the kids birthdays in a special place will be remembered for a very long time to come.

Beatrice shares with us ….

Pictured here is Tristan, aged 11, Greg, aged 10, Julian, aged 4 and little Cameron, aged 3 months (at the time) in August last year while we were holidaying in France and we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate all of our birthdays with our favorite French patisseries. “Yummo, boy we miss them and their famous baguettes.” she says.

Beatrice was a lucky recipient of a Prize of a Little Pearls for Little Girls baby pearl set in our Oct/nov promo.  This is part of what she said.

I wish to personally thank you for the pearl bracelet that I received this morning.

After having 3 boys first, I guess I have to get used to more girly things for my little baby girl, don’t I?? I am just getting used to it now without too much pink.

I will send you a photo with the set on my daughter soon.

Warm Regards

Beatrice

Lilli declares …. ” The BEST party ever!! ”

Published by Elizabeth under KooL KidZ

One of La Toriana’s gorgeous customers tells us of her daughters Tickle Pink party.  Ahh what heaven.  Having it at home but not having to do the work.  You can actually relax and watch and enjoy the party!!
Linda tells us all about it
Robert was 10months old and Sophie not quite 3 and the thought of a party was overwhelming so I had Tickle Pink parties  (Brisbane/Gold

Coast) come in.  (check pout next weeks Blog for more on this great business!)

They came and set up their own table and chairs - brought their own

real china for the kids and high tea sets (as per the pic), a couple

of hosts, face painting craft and best of all cleaned up afterwards.

I actually like to bake so I still organised the food, but they can also organise the food as well. (Yes Linda… great job on the birthday cake… what a stunner!)

Not only was is so much easier having someone else organising the

party and then the kids on the day, but because they do it all the

time they had some great, but sensible ideas. For example, when they

played musical chairs they took away 2 or 3 chairs at a time - not

only a time saver but the kids are not as upset if a couple of them

miss out on a chair. For musical status everyone started of with

maracas and if they were ‘out’ the maracas were taken away but they could keep on dancing.

Lilli looks gorgeous in her Tea Princess crochet singlet and her Princess Ratbag white pettiskirt

I would highly recommend them they were amazing with great communication, and I thought great value for what I got. Lilli adored it and next year Sophie wants the same. (Love this above pic… this little girl sure knows how to be a princess and eat with style… note the little pinkie finger)

Cheers  Linda

Thank you so much Linda for sharing Lilli’s special birthday.  wow… looks amazing!!  I think this is a great idea… especially love the sleep over one for my daughter who wants a sleep over party for her birthday.  mmm? wonder if Paula come down to Victoria!!

Can’t wait to hear all about Sophies party next!

Mad Scientist Birthday Party for Maya

Published by Elizabeth under KooL KidZ

Oh what a gorgeous photo!!!   The ever so gorgeous Maya recently had a birthday and what a whole lot of fun it looks!!  Wow… what inspiring, fun and memorable day!  Nathan and Kate (from teaandjam photography) did a wonderful job creating this at home for their little girl… you can too

Kate tells us all about it:

We decided to go with a scientist party theme, we thought that there would be heaps of cool stuff to do to entertain the kids and to stop them from destroying the house and each other.  We had the party at home. Even though I had promised myself to never do that again after the previous year’s do.

But we found that if you kept the kids entertained and involved, damage to your house and mind is kept to a minimum.

I somehow managed to talk Nathan (Dad) into dressing up as the Mad Scientist and he showed the kids lots of different scientific experiments using everyday things.

We did get some dried ice for the grand finale though. Well worth it, just to see the looks on the kids faces!

We made our own food. I tried to make the food look scientific. It was perfect timing that Donna Hay bought out a party edition with a scientist party at the same time as Maya’s do.

So I found plenty of inspiration there! Petrie dish fairy bread was a hit! Amazing what a bit of green food dye in the butter can do.  I made up the invitations myself and Maya coloured them in for that personal touch. They said the kids were invited to an “Experimentation Celebration”. Totally corny!

As far as decorations go, I found a link to a site that had images of a 1960s kids science encyclopedia I printed those out and stuck them on the walls.
I also found heaps of old Vegemite jars from the op shop and filled them with coloured water and a plastic animal, they were take home specimens.

I had hanging on the coat rack when the kids rocked up, their own little white shirt (with name tag) and a pair of kids sized groucho glasses.
They all looked too cute in their mad scientist get up.
.

I made the specimen jars, coats and glasses as a little kit the kids could take home with them, instead of a bag full of sweets.  I also kept the party lolly intake to a minimum, boring I know, but I learnt my lesson from the previous year’s lolly fest!
.
THANK YOU so much Kate for sharing this.  Tiana just loved the whole theme of the party and wants to have one just like it.
Might just have to hire your services Kate and Nathan especially as the Mad Scientist!!!    I can see how great this is for all kids, boys and girls, and I somehow think Nathan got just as much (if not more) fun out of the day!
The photo’s you took are so captivating…. no wonder you guys are so popular as photographers!!

Evelyn’s “Pink Party” inspiration for KooL KidZ

Published by Elizabeth under KooL KidZ

Evelyn’s birthday party;  (Written by Evelyn’s mums, Carol)

I just love spoiling my children when their birthdays come around. This was the first party we have had for my three year old daughter, Evelyn, apart from small family gatherings. Her birthday is so close to Christmas and in previous years we have been travelling or simply too rushed. She was very much aware of the whole birthday party concept this year after attending her brother’s party and a few others.

“I want a pink party Mummy, with a princes castle and a princess cake and singing and dancing and face painting”, she announced after attending her friend Eliza’s party.

Well, I managed all of that, except the face painting. I did buy some face paints and even practiced painting her face in the weeks leading up to her party, but simply forgot about it on the day. Never mind. We’ll keep that in reserve for next year.

I was really pleased at how everything came together. I collected things in the months leading up to the party; table cloth, napkins, pink loot bags, party hats, plastic plates and cups and the pink fluffy tiara came from the $2.00 store. I also bought some crepe paper rolls which we used to make the streamers which hung from our outdoor canopy. They only cost about $1.30 per roll, but the pink and white streamers blowing gently in the breeze really added a magical touch to our back yard party.

I love decorating cakes and this one was no exception. It didn’t turn out exactly as planned. I usually use Madeira cake, but this time opted for mud cakes from Woolworths. Unfortunately the cakes were so soft and moist they sank a little with the weight of the top tier so my nice straight sides were a little sloped the day after decorating. Oh well, I’ll know for next time. It still looked pretty good and it tasted fantastic.

I began by slicing the top off the cakes and sandwiching together then covering with butter icing. I then used pre-made icing (available from cake decorating stores or even from the supermarket), which I coloured with ‘Wilton’ icing colours and rolled out. The icing was then draped over the cakes and smoothed out. I have an icing smoother which helps to achieve a lovely, smooth, flat surface. A small flower cutter was used to make the flower shapes and a tiny circle cutter was used for the flower centres. I also sprinkled some ‘disco dust’, an edible glitter available from good cake decorating stores on top of the cake to make is shimmer and sparkle. The cake was finished off with a plastic tiara and some pink ribbon.

I also made cupcakes and decorated these with pink butter icing. The tiny flowers were made with excess icing flowers from the cake. They were also sprinkled with disco dust. I absolutely love the wrappers I used. They are from my friends at the Cupcake Wrapper Co. Of course, they have other colours available but I simply had to have pink for Evelyn’s party.

Other yummy treats included marshmallow teacups which are so incredibly easy to make, pink fairy bread, pink fudge, pink musk sticks, watermelon, grapes, strawberries, mini marshmallows and some pink wafer biscuits. To make the teacups you simply need tic-toc biscuits, pink and white marshmallows, some chocolate freckles and some lifesavers for the handles. Use an icing glue, sugar syrup or icing to join all the pieces together. Easy peasy! I also served pink cordial, fruit juice and water. Hint: I found it difficult to find lifesavers.

We entertained the children with song and dance, with party games like pass the parcel, musical squares (I used coloured squares of fabric and laid them out on the lawn) and sack races. We also had a craft activity, a dress-up box and free play time.

The craft activity was very simple. I bought some wooden photo frames from Ikea and, with Evelyn’s help we painted them in pretty pastel colours before the party. The children then decorated them with stickers, decals and glitter.

The loot bags were very special. Rather than giving the children bags of lollies, I made polymer mugs with their own custom design and name. This took me ages! I sat up late on a few nights creating these. I am lucky to have the equipment necessary for making the mugs from my business, “Little Critters”. The mugs will last for many years and are a great keepsake. I used matching designs for the stickers on the pink goodie bags. Also included in the loot bags were a Freddo Frog, a Chuppa Chup and a crazy, bendy straw.

Excessive? Absolutely! But I did have lots of fun creating all these treasures and there were lots of happy, smiling faces at the party.

Shame about the face painting but I’ll try to remember for next year.

Hint: Prepare as much as you can ahead of time so you can enjoy the party with your child. Small children will often be overwhelmed with all of the activity and excitement on the day so don’t stress if they need time away from the excitement or if things don’t go exactly according to plan. Remember, parties are supposed to be fun.

Did all the kids dress up?

Girls dressed up as their fav princess and boys dressed as their fav superhero.  My 1 year old dressed up as Yoda from star wars!

Where/who made the cake?

This lady, Caroline has been making my kids cakes for years. She is fantastic, Delasweets. Based in Sydney’s North West. All I do is find cakes I like add a few changes and send her a pic.  This cake was a combination of 2 cakes. Only cost me like $200!
