FOOD FOR KIDS
For a healthy and quick snack idea, I cut up dried apricots, sultanas, dates, dried apple etc and mix together in a large bowl and then put a child size portion in individual zip-lock bags and store in the pantry – they are then easy to grab on your way out for the day and much cheaper than pre-packaged snacks from the supermarket.
We just love everything Oobi (especially their summer dresses). We also love anything made out of vintage or retro style fabrics.
CRAFT IDEAS
There are so many websites out there offering craft ideas for kids so sign up for one of the sites which sends you weekly emails with craft suggestions and you will never be at a loss for ideas. Many local libraries also run free weekly or monthly craft sessions for toddlers and children so see what yours has to offer.
Clothes and toys
Sell the clothes and toys your kids have grown out of on Ebay or other similar websites. You will be surprised at what people will buy! I also use at as a justification (mostly to my husband!) to pay more for some of my girls outfits knowing that I will be able to recoup some of the cost later on when I sell it.
I love giving books as birthday presents for kids. If you join the Huggies Book Club you can buy children’s books for 10% below the recommended retail price and there is no postage charge.Use the web – Sign up for newsletter notifications from websites like Kids Style File and Mum’s Grapevine to get notice of which shops and sites are having sales on kids items.
FAVOURITE TOYS
My girls adore doing puzzles at the moment but it can be a nightmare trying to keep all of the pieces together and not lose any. I store each of their puzzles in separate zip-lock sandwich bag (and throw away the boxes to save space), and on each bag I tape a scanned picture of the puzzle and write the number of pieces. All of the plastic bags then just go in one large cloth drawstring bag, and this saves so much space and makes packing up very quick.My girls also love playing shops at the moment. To add to their ‘props’ I buy a few of the miniature versions of things when I do the groceries (such as the small 6 egg cartons and those tiny boxes of cereal). They also use a couple of my old wallets which I put various business or other plastic cards in I no longer need.

My recipe is a stew that no child can resist. The quantities are big as it freezes well.
1kg gravy beef or skirt steak
4 rashers of bacon cut into stips
500g good quality pork chipolatas
1 onion diced
1 swede grated
1 carrot grated
100g mushrooms optional
1/4 cup red wine
3 Tbs flour
2 cups beef stock
1 tsp mixed herbs
Cut beef into 2cm cubes and place in heavy bottomed oven proof casserol dish.
Add flour and mix.
Add bacon,onion,swede,carrotand mushrooms mix through.
Place sausages on top.
Add wine herbs and beef stock.
Put lid on and put in a slow oven (150)
cook for 3 hours
serve with mashed potato, pumpkin and sweet potato

we tried this (without mushrooms and wine) and is a great healthy kids dinner. we also added parsnip (Tiana’s suggestion…) was YUM
